Producer Licenses
Insurance producers and adjusters are required to be licensed to operate in New Hampshire. Our licensing team supports the department’s mission to promote and protect the public good by ensuring the existence of a safe and competitive insurance marketplace by maintaining licensing and continuing education requirements.

Insufficient Funds Policy:
Pursuant to RSA 6:11-a, we are required to collect a fee of $25.00 or 5% of the face amount of the check (whichever is greater) in addition to $8.00 state treasury fees, on all checks returned for insufficient funds. Upon notification that a check for licensing fees has been returned, the licensee will be notified and the license will be placed in suspended status immediately. If the financial obligation is not satisfied within 60 days, the license will be canceled.

- Resident Individuals must satisfactorily pass a formal written examination for the desired license type and lines of authority. This examination is administered by our business partner, Prometric.
- Approved Pre-Licensing Courses
- The NH Insurance Department does not provide study materials, cannot recommend any supplier of study materials and does not evaluate the quality of any training course or study material. The following businesses have advised us they may have training or study materials that you can purchase. The taking of a course alone does not guarantee that an individual will pass a licensing exam, it merely is another tool available for an individual to use to prepare for the test itself.

- New Hampshire Department of State Corporate Division: The Corporate Division is responsible for the statutory filing of business entities, trademarks and trade names and numerous miscellaneous filings.
- Designated Responsible Licensed Producer (DRLP's) must be licensed for the Lines of Authority selected by the Business Entity.

Renewal Producer License
Effective January 2015 the department will send out courtesy renewal reminders by email only. Notices will be sent approximately 60 days prior to your license expiration. The department will no longer mail notifications. It is imperative that email addresses be kept up to date with this department.

- The license renewal period begins 90 days prior to expiration and ends at midnight the day of expiration. For resident producers and adjusters, continuing education is required 60 days prior to license expiration. The licensee must be CE compliant before they can renew. A courtesy renewal reminder will be emailed to the business email on file with the department approximately 60 days prior to expiration. Per RSA 402-J: 7 notification of an address change is required within 30 days of a change. This includes email addresses and can be processed online at www.nipr.com. All resident producers with a major line of authority must be CE compliant. All renewals are processed electronically via www.nipr.com
- Business entities cannot change the DRLP of record through the renewal process. If you wish to change the DRLP complete the DRLP change form and mail with a$50 check to the department prior to processing the renewal. DRLP must be actively licensed in NH and hold the same lines of authority as the entity.
- Individual Producers- Licenses expire the last day of the birth month.
- Business Entities expire 5/31.
- NON RECEIPT OF AN EMAIL REMINDER DOES NOT NEGATE YOUR RESPONSIBILITY TO RENEW YOUR LICENSE.
- Any license not renewed on time will have all active appointments terminated upon the expiration of the license.

Reinstating Expired Licenses Within Two Years of Expiration
- Resident individuals applying to reinstate licenses within 2 years of expiration must be Continuing Education compliant.
- Non Resident Individuals must be licensed in good standing in their home state.
- Reinstatement fee is $300

License Amendments
- License amendments are changes that add lines of authority (LOA), delete LOA, and adding or deleting a Designated Responsible Licensed Producer.
- Individual Amendments
- Residents- To add a LOA, resident individuals must take the appropriate licensing examination. Apply online and select Resident "+ line of authority." $50 fee.
- Non Resident - To add a LOA, non resident Apply online and select Non Resident "+ line of authority." $50 fee.
- Business Entity Amendments
- To add a LOA, Business Entities Apply Online and select Resident or Non Resident "+ line of authority." DRLP's must hold these LOA's. $50 fee.
- Adding, Changing, Deleting DRLP's or LOA's; Mail a written request signed by the new DRLP, include $50 fee or complete the change form . Make checks payable to the NH Insurance Dept. This cannot be processed online.
- Changing business name without a corresponding change in FEIN: Write a letter signed by an officer, Director, or Owner requesting the amendment. no fee required.
